Adidas Samba Classic Review
- Product:
- Adidas Samba Classic (company site)
- What’s Good:
- Classic style, strong, great sole.
- What’s Bad
- Narrow, not as good as Samba K.
I'm on to my third pair of Samba indoor soccer shoes. I was so confident in these shoes that when I bought the last pair three years ago, I just walked into the local soccer shop, asked for them, and paid without even taking them out of the box. I've used them primarily for playing indoors, but they've also been of service when playing on really hard fields and for casual wear.
The two best attributes of the Sambas are their great durability and their grippy soles. As I said, I've had my last pair for three years. That's an unheard of length of time for an athletic shoe. My last pair finally succumbed after about three and a half years, but I subjected them to a lot of outdoor play. The soles are great. Grippy in almost all situations but not gooey like Adidas Gazelles which wear out faster. I've played soccer in dusty gyms and while other people are sliding about, the Sambas did an admirable job.
Also, as the name implies, the Samba is a classic. I don't particularly want bright red shoes or the latest greatest in shoe technology, so these fit the bill perfectly. Tried and tested and with lots of old school style.
One criticism of the shoes is that they have a narrow fit. I have wide feet and at the beginning of the indoor season my feet get fairly sore until they've toughened up a bit. However, soccer shoes need to fit tightly, so it's a bit of a toss-up. If you've got very wide feet and are extremely uncomfortable in narrow shoes you might want to look further afield for something specifically designed for your needs.
All that said, the Samba K shoes are even better. They're the exact same design, but with made of Kangaroo leather (no joke) and have a slightly different tongue. I owned a pair for about year before a dog got ahold of them. The leather is much more supple and shapes to your foot very quickly. However, they're considerably more expensive (about $35-40 more where I bought them).
Great shoe, highly recommended.

The black Samba Classic is pretty much part of my hometown uniform. Love the things. (British ones have white soles, though; I prefer the brown ones sold in the US.)

I bought the Sambas not for soccer (although it is my favorite sport)but for Kung Fu. I am studying Shoulin Long Fist Wu Shu and I needed some good work out shoes. I looked high and low for a type called Conflux but I believe they are out of production. The closest thing I could find are the Sambas. Not only do they look great, they perform awsome. They are extremely light and durable. If anyone has ever practiced Wu Shu, you know how the low akward stances can tear a shoe up. They are also a cool alternative to "the skate shoe" that all the posers are wearing these days, that probebly have not even seen a skateboard.

have had a pair of sambas since jr hi. great old school look. extremely durable. grateful the samba has remained in production over the years. Not much cushioning, so not for running, but terrific for everything else.

adidas samba are the best shoes you can buy. I have had a pair of sambas for most of my life (not the same ones. Stylish, durable and amazing for playing footy in or outdoor. All footy players should have a pair. But dont ever get them in blue and white or blue and yellow. They should be black and white, don't spoil a work of art!

hi ive been looking all over for some black samba trainers with the brown soles in a US size 4.5, (UK 4), cant seem to get them anywhere in the uk or find a website in another country that would ship them to the Uk, can you help?!!
ja - January 11, 2007 7:23 am
Hi i've been a big samba fan for years (not these re-made retro ones, but the ones you could buy in the uk in the 80's with the big white strip round the front). Anyway in about 1997 i bought a black leather pair that had yellow stripes instead of white. i never ever saw anybody else with a pair of these shoes. i would pay good good money if someone knew how i could get some. please email me.

kenedy - March 26, 2008 11:35 pm
why is it soo difficult to get this in the u.k i've been all over the place
rod - April 15, 2008 12:06 am
Where to buy them:
US
www.soccer.com
www.prosoccer.com
www.eastbay.com
www.zappos.com
UK
Given where the FX between the GBP and the USD is, just buy them in the US in the sites mentioned, and ship them over there, they are going to end up costing less than 30 pounds, even if you pay additional taxes on them!!!
Mexico
Please, go to any Marti Sports store. Marti also sells them online. As a last resource, follow the advise to the UK folks, buy them in the US and ship them to Mexico.

I have been looking for the samba's in the below link:
http://www.shopadidas.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3025384
But, Shopadidas.com won't ship to europe.
Anybody know where else I could get them?
Bournski - August 13, 2008 5:20 pm
Don't go much on the white n black but hey sambas are sambas
Andrew - October 2, 2008 7:18 pm
I have been wearing sambas non stop since my first pair. I made a mistake ordering the last pair though. I ordered the all black version. The all black and the brown version arent available very much because they arent the same great shoe i have come to love.
Stick with the classics, black and white is where its at
btw does anyone have any strong feelings towards Samba K's instead of classic. for both everyday wear and indoor
