- Not nearly as tough as it looks.
What birthday gift do you get the dog that has everything? Why, this great dog toy of course. I recently got my sister's dog the devilish dog toy from Cuz when she was celebrating his birthday. The designers have created a great design of the little devil squeaky toy (it's about the size of a medium Kong toy) and its angelic twin. They seem to be made out of the same rubber as a Kong toy and I naively assumed they'd share that toy's near invincibility. Unfortunately, the birthday boy (who is not a strong dog by any means) devoured the toy's entire left foot in a single evening and then started on removing the cute little horns. Great aesthetic design — too bad they didn't test it for chewability.

Too bad some dogs can chew " Cuz" up...I have a smaller 18lb. Cockapoo who lives for "Cuz" ! Never chews the toy up but after a while the squeker breaks. Georgie keeps playing with it but enjoys it more when it squeaks. Out of all of her 10 to 15 toys she loves "Cuz" the best!! Great toy!!

I have given my dog 3 Cuz toys in 3 weeks and within 1 hour of giving the dog the toy, the squeaker breaks. We have a Scottipoo, so we bought the small version and replaced it by another small version when the squeaker broke. She had that one for 30 minutes and then the next week we returned it and bought the #43168 medium one. That squeaker broke within 15 minutes. I do not understand why the squeaker breaks. My dog loves to play throw and catch with it. I am beginning to wonder if it is because I am throwing it. If so, I am disappointed because that is the way she likes to play.
Can you please reply to my question?
Thanks, Sharon

I agree about the squeaker; my rat terrier has had two small cuz 'and one medium size, and within ten minutes of getting them, has wrecked the squeaker in all of them. He loves the toy; it's his all time favorite, but I am disappointed in the quality and durability of the toy. I'd like to hear other views on this dog toy.

My one year old dalmation is in LOVE with this toy. He has the medium, and it took him about three minutes to get the feet off, and an hour or so to break the squeeker. But he still carries it everywhere, takes it to bed with him, cries when it gets stuck under the sofa, and won't play with any other toy when it's around. I've never seen him react like this with a toy, it's amazing...

I have a miniature pinscher that will not let this toy go. I hide it the best I can to make him stop wanting to play and he can sniff it out and will whine until he gets it! The feet were gone within 10 minutes and the squeaker minutes later, but the absolute best toy to keep a dog busy!

I bought a large "good cuz" for my 4-year-old pit bull about 2 months ago and she adores it. She carries it with her everywhere she goes and just squeaks it constantly. She has not mutilated it at all except for a tiny tear in one of the feet (and she is know for shredding the toughest toys I have found, large black kongs gone in less than 3 minutes). I don't know if she just loves it too much to kill it or if it really is a pretty tough toy, whatever it is it has made her that happiest puppy in the world.

I bought a small Cuz for my Jack Russell Minnie 2 weeks ago- she is obsessed with it- carries it on walks, up to bed, won't play with anything else- luckily she doesnt destroy toys so its lasting well- Id better get a spare tho in case she loses it !!

I bought a medium Cuz for my dog yesterday because at the dog park the other day she stole it from another dog and would not give it up. She adores this toy and I can't figure out why. She's nibbled at its feet so I have to watch her while she's playing with it. Does anyone else's smell like coconuts?
Zach - July 5, 2005 4:05 pm
I got a Cuz for my dog about a week ago, and he got half of a foot off last night. It probably would've been sooner, but we didn't let him play with it non-stop, either. The squeaker is still fine, and there are no signs of damage to the body. And he's a pit bull/boxer mix.

my dog loves this toy he won't put it down and takes it every where with him

My dog Pandora, Loves the Bad Cuz that we got at petsmart. another customer had been squeezig it and she was captivated by the squeeker. she walks around the house chomping and squeeking the thing for hours at a time. she has not damaged it at all yet so she is not bored with it yet...once she has had enough she generally shreds her toy's so we know to get her another toy. our other dog Smokey loves it as well. pandora is a rottweiler, smokey is a collie / shepard mix. both dogs can shred knogs in under half an hour when they are bored with them, but they have not even tried to take the feet off. these are great toys, we still have the squeeker in ours, and the dogs usally try to "kill" the squeekers first thing. I just wish I could find a "good" cuz in the large size to match the larg "bad" cuz we have.
Olive's Dad - July 26, 2005 11:55 am
We've got a smallish miniature dachshund who has amassed a whole gaggle of CUZ toys: one shaped like a mummy, a Franken-CUZ, a Dino-CUZ, and several devil and angel versions in wild colors. They are her favorite toys by far and must be taken away from her at night, or she'd stay up (as would the rest of the household!) all night playing with them. She's managed to nibble at the feet and breaks the squeakers almost immediately, but the integrity of the bodies seems to hold up to her incessant playing. For the price, they're terrific--especially if we have guests or want some dog-free time--just bring out a CUZ and Olive's well occupied.
To make matters worse, my five-year-old niece has developed a CUZ fetish, too, after seeing Olive play with them. There were a few raised eyebrows at her birthday party when she opened my present of five shiny new dog toys...
Marie - July 26, 2005 10:43 pm
My little corgi mix LOVES the Cuz's too, except that the squeakers break within 2-30 minutes :-(
I wish they would make the squeakers more durable, I can't figure out why they break so fast, in less durable toys the squeakers have lasted a long time... doesn't make any sense.
Nancy's mom - July 28, 2005 10:42 am
My pit bull Nancy fell in love with another dog's Cuz, and now just about lives for it. I don't leave it for her to use unattended, but use it outside for fetch--perhaps that is why her's last pretty well. She isn't really all the distructive with toys anyway, so may not be a good test for durability.
Can't figure out what makes the toy so special--seems rather ordinary to me--but judging by its nearly universal appeal in the dog run, plainly they have something here.
Kelly - July 30, 2005 3:59 am
The CUZ is an extremely durable toy! My dog is the DESTROYER of toys. A KONG lasts about 20 minutes. Peggy Sue has had a CUZ for 4 months!!!! She poked the squeaker out after about 6 hours but the CUZ has endured. She packs it around everywhere, it's her favorite baby!!! Buy one. It's a dogs favorite toy!!!
Sharon - August 2, 2005 3:22 pm
I bought our Golden a medium Cuz a year ago and he played with it constantly, squeezing it to make different sounds and getting some great jaw exercise, until the squeaker gave out last week. He stopped playing with it completely, so I bought him a new one. Within 30 seconds the squeaker broke. I returned it for a replacement, and within 2 days the squeaker died.
It makes me wonder if the manufacturer has changed the process of making this fantastic toy. It is definitely not as durable, and seems softer to the feel than the original Cuz I bought.

My 8 mo. old Australian Shepherd LOVES her Angel Cuz and Devil Cuz and won't play with any of her other toys now. She's totally obsessed with them. After 2 weeks she finally broke the angel's squeeker (thank goodness!). I sometimes have to take the devil away because she squeeks it continuously for an hour or more. The feet are all still intact... Not sure what is so fascinating about these particular toys, but she won't put them down.

Our boxers, Moe and Xena, like Cuz toys but Moe, the male, always destroys the squeaker within the first 10 minutes. Both dogs insist on getting possession of the same toy even when they each get one at the same time. The internal construction/mounting of the squeaker is much better than some dog toys but still not bullet-proof.
Matt Smith - September 29, 2005 12:46 pm
My poodle destroys all toys within hours of geting them but not the Cuz, he has had both designs for a month and never plays with anything else, they're awesome.

I recently bought my 2 year old Jack Russell terrier the red devil cuz and he hasn't put it down yet. Everything is still working and in tact. I thought he might have had the legs off by now but there isn't even a scratch. The squeeker is still fine as well, he loves it!! They're fantastic, and so cute!! :)

our 1.5 year old dalmation/great dane mix is OBSESSED with the good cuz. we bought one good and one bad. he likes the bad cuz but can live without it. when he wakes up in the morning all he can think to do is run straight for that good cuz toy...ALL DAY he plays with it. i have been taking it away from him for days in a row to try to break the addiction. i don't know what they put in that rubber but he is NUTS for it!
Dave - October 30, 2005 5:18 pm
We have two Bad Cuz and two Good Cuz.
One of my dogs loves the Bad Cuz and will carry one with him anywhere. He won't fetch balls generally, but he will fetch a Bad Cuz every time. My other dog likes the Bad Cuz but isn't obsessive, except that sometimes the two dogs will wrestle over a Bad Cuz for 30 minutes or more.
Both my dogs tear up any non-Kong toy they get, even the industrial strength toys (e.g., firehose bumpers). One or the other will chew the feet off a Bad Cuz within minutes, but they don't do any further damage to it.
Curiously, neither of my dogs will touch the Good Cuz. Both of them have sat untouched, with their feet intact, since I bought them.

I have a 72 pound 2 year old Pitbull named "Dro". No toy has lasted more than a day with him. I have went through many Kong toys, tennis ball material toys, rubber tires, etc. The only toy he hasn't "killed" yet was this Cuz ball with the feet. He has been playing with it for a couple of MONTHS! I don't know why he doesn't destroy it like the others, but he chews it alot and I don't know why he doesn't bite into or tear it. He is capable of tearing apart safety cones you see on the highway, I give him them to play with sometimes to burn off some energy. I am shocked at some of the letters about this toy. Maybe the smaller toys are not as durable or something.By the way the squeaker did break, but it did take about a month. Thank god because it was very loud and he always plays with it...lol
Cathy F. - November 11, 2005 2:01 pm
My pug has gone through 6 of these Cuz toys over the past 3 weeks! She has never reacted this way to ANY toy (and she has too many to list); she takes it everywhere and will 'fetch' a Cuz when she won't fetch anything else. Same problem as most of you though, the squeaker inside is useless in about 20 minutes. The longest lasting one to date is about 2 days. I don't know why the squeak bladder inside gives out so quickly, but I can't afford to replace these every other day! She still likes to play with them after the squeaker breaks, but just not as much. They hold up well to her chewing though!
Jessica M. - November 16, 2005 1:12 pm
I have a 16 month old Jack Russel Terrier who destroys every toy, including every type of KONG toy, within 15-20 minutes of getting it. The only exception I have found is the Cuz toy. She has had the same one for about 10 months now, and while the squeaker is long gone, the toy itself is intact and is one of her favorites to play with. I would recommend the Cuz toy to any strong chewers!
Denise - November 22, 2005 6:37 pm
My 3 year old 70 lb. chow/German Shepherd mix LOVES his Cuz. He is our shop dog at work. The only reason we have ever had to buy a new Cuz is because they get lost under stacks of construction material, or thrown into trailers that are leaving the shop for jobsite, etc. If Sid can't find his Cuz, he is miserable. He has never torn off the legs, and only one had a busted squeaker. (Why, oh why can't I get one with a squeaker that breaks in just a few minutes?)
The Cuz is by far his favorite toy ever.

We have a standard poodle and a cocker-poo and they are absolutely CRAZY about these toys...they do smell like coconuts by the way...well they bury them under the furniture and then beg for them..the big standard poodle loves the little ones he carries them around in his mouth..the squeekers do break but they don't seem to mind!! these are the best toys ever...they keep them busy for hours!!!except we have to take them away before bed or we would never get any sleep!!!
justin - December 19, 2005 12:39 pm
I bought the small Cuz for my Puggle. He loved it, and I thought I had a hit. Alas though, the squeeker broke abotu an horu later, and he lost interest. The pet store exchanged it for another, and I had similar results. The squeeker was gone in abotu 30 minutes. Great idea for a toy, durability is just awful. I will not be wasting my money on another one.

My 3 year old Norwich Terrier, Amos also loved his purple Bad Cuz - no of his sibs were allowed near it - unfortunately he ate the feet off and swallowed them. One foot he threw up several weeks later. Then 10 days after that he was in emergency surgery - the other had lodged just into his small intestine. It took me 2 more weeks to figure out exactly what the mystery items were. Only when he was playing with an orange one and I saw that the feet were breaking off did it dawn on me just what the purple mystery items were. The feet may go down but they won't come back out. I have thrown out all Cuz toys.

I got my Border Collie/Labrador a "Bad Cuz" a week ago and she absolutely loves it. I hide it from her in different places every night when I go to bed so she won't be able to squeak it all night long. She is a destoyer of toys as well (especially ones with squeakers). She tore it's ears off in the first 10 minutes and if left alone with it, will eat it's feet off. The squeaker is still working fine. My suggestion to the makers of this toy would be to leave off the ears (found on the Bad Cuz) and the feet and just make it a normal ball, that way it will be a little more durable.

I am president of JW Pet Company, the maker of the CUZ. I want to respond to some of the comments regarding the problem of the squeaker. It is true that certain aggressive chewers can damage the squeaker. We have been working on that problem and believe we have improved it substantially. The new squeaker design should be in stores shortly. Our first goal when we introduced CUZ with regard to the squeaker design was to make sure it could not be removed from the toy where it could present a hazard (unlike many other pet toys with easily removable squeakers). In that we have been successful. Although many, if not most, pet parents are happy with the squeaker life we at JW Pet are not and, as mentioned, have redesigned it in a way that we believe will extend its life even in the face of the most determined dogs. JW Pet has recently introduced a line of rubber dog toys under the name RUFFIANS which utilize the new squeaker design.
Susan - February 23, 2006 5:28 am
I have small three dogs that absolutely adore CUZ toys and I usually buy them two dozen at a time. For my three dogs, the squeaker does also quickly disappear but their interest in the toy doesn't. They each carry one around in their mouth at all times, especially on any walks on the golf course -- which is why I buy them by the dozens because they usually get dropped and found again on yet another walk. ;) I have two Boston Terriers and a small Pug, and they have never chewed the feet off of any of these toys. But they'd also rather chase them and carry them around rather than chew on them.
Lisa - March 23, 2006 10:29 pm
I have a West Highland Terrier that loves the Cuz. He has had one for about 2 years and although he has gotten many other toys he always goes back to the Cuz. Last month I noticed the feet were missing (he is not a chewer) and found one but never found the other one but did not think too much about it. He got sick and ended up at the vets several days later for emergency surgery for a bowel ostruction from swallowing the foot. Please check the feet from time to time to make sure the rubber has not cracked or the feet are not loose. I don't want this to happen anyone else. He has another one and I have cut the feet off of it.
Amy - March 31, 2006 12:05 am
I have a few Cuz toys for my yorkie shitzu mix. He is crazy for them. They are the only toys that last, I don't mind the squeaker dying out cuz it does get annoying after a million times, but he still plays with it with out the squeak. Maybe its the rattling sound you can hear once the squeak gives out. My dog is about 15lbs but I bought him a medium one anyays and it took him like a week to destroy the squeaker cuz it was too big for him. He doesn't really like the dinasour one, but loves the tiny green and orange ones with out the ears. I definitely will stick to these toys in the future.
Jeff - April 1, 2006 7:26 pm
Our lab got a Bad Cuz today and she loved it! Within a few seconds she had severed the horn off and went for the other one. The feet seem dutrable but she desperately wants to rip them off.
Liisa - April 1, 2006 11:38 pm
I got a 2nd Cuz for our 1.5 yr mini schnauzer. She loves it and has been playing with it non-stop for hours, but she broke the squeaker after an hour. I bought the second because her interest in the first one, whose queaker broke within 2 hours, has waned. I checked the JW toys website to find more info about the more durable squeaker line called Ruffians, but the website is dreadful with very little info, so I don't yet know what a Ruffian product looks like. I wonder if JW Pets will stand behind its ruffian product with an autmatic mail in guarantee? At this point, with my pup napping with the cuz at my feet, I am resigned to buying an engaging yet undurable product ...
Michelle in Seattle - April 25, 2006 3:53 am
Our dog also loves the Bad Cuz. We have bought two of them for her, and one Good Cuz. The Good Cuz seems to be "weaker" so we haven't bought anymore of that style. The feet do get chomped off quickly, and the devil horns are pretty quickly nibbed at too. Of course the squeakers don't last either, but we "trick her" with other squeakers and slight of hand in our games of chase. But the integrity of the toy lasts, and that is important to us.
As for the Ruffians...it is FABULOUS! We have had it now for about two weeks and it still squeaks. IT SQUEAKS!!! I can't tell you how excited I am about this. And if I am excited, you should see how excited our pup is. LOL. We have the green Octopus, FYI.
Honey is a 70 lb. yellow lab mix who is a power chewer like no other. All of the "tough toys" recommended by friends that are supposed to last and last and last...well, they last no more than five minutes. NEVER longer than that. So the Ruffian that squeaks two weeks later is a miracle product in our minds!
Zach - May 5, 2006 7:04 pm
I bought my Boston Terrier a medium cuz a month ago.He loves it! He won't put it down. Most toys I buy break with in a few weeks. This one has lasted longer than any others and is by far his favorite toy.
Pucka's Mom - May 7, 2006 6:21 pm
I bought a devil cuz for my 15 lb. Boston Terrier 'Pucka' almost a year ago and it is STILL intact, squeaker and feet included. He will rest on the lawn for about 15 minutes after playing fetch with us and gnaws ferociously at the feet and the entire body making it sqeuak repeatedly and yet it looks brand new after a good rinsing. It's an amazing toy, unscathed even after a quick chomp from our Great Dane, 'Hera'.
Christy - May 12, 2006 11:33 pm
I agree. Absolutely the best toy I've found. My Pit/Husky mix has had 2 surgeries to remove squeekers and tennis balls, but this toy has resisted his best attempts. I used to go through 2-3 balls a day...now his bad cuz has replaced any other toy for months on end. Thanks so much!
Mary - May 22, 2006 4:56 pm
WARNING! My dog just had one of the feet from one of his cuz dog toys surgically removed from his small intestine. He chewed the foot off and swallowed it causing a blockage. We still do not know if he is going to be ok or if he will need to be put down. I just want everyone to know that this is a potential hazard with these toys. Your dog could chew off the feet and if swallowed, these can cause a blockage leading to very expensive vet bills or possibly death! Our dog is still not out of the woods yet. I want everyone to know that this can happen. BEWARE!
Tiffany - June 6, 2006 2:49 pm
I have a one year old boxer/border collie mix and she loves this toy. We have had the same one for about 7 months and she has not destroyed it or broken the squeaker. This is the only toy that has survived in our house!
Joel - June 8, 2006 10:48 am
I bought the large Cuz 10 months ago and I must admit there are days when I wish the squeaker would break. I have a 75+ pound Rhodesian Ridgeback and he loves to have me hold onto the feet so he can can have his tug-o-war play. Or he will play by himself with it by squeaking it and dropping it then picking it up and squeaking it and dropping it continuously.
Like with rawhide chews—which he devours quickly—always supervise your dog with new toys or any toy. You should always keep an eye on them, just like you would with your kids.
But this toy is built like to no other and he loves it.
me - June 9, 2006 7:53 pm
hey i just got the dino CUZ toy. my pup played with it for about a day then wont have anything to do with it. do you think she might like one without a tail better?
Karla - June 17, 2006 4:41 pm
My yorkie, Monty. LOVES his "Timmy" - given the name because when it gets stuck under anything, he cries until we retrieve it for him.
He chewed the feet off in about 2 weeks, but took much longer to take out the squeaker. Regardless of Timmy's state, Monty just loves him... we have tried replacing it with other Cuz (I can't find a white one like Timmy... we've tried all sorts of colors, including the devil one), but Monty will have nothing to do with them.

I have come to the conclusion that these Cuz toys are like Crack for Dogs.... my spastic dogs love these...I can always count on this toy to keep them entertained...and trust me...sometimes they DEMAND 1000% of my attention...even right after a whole day at the park.
I guess they need their goddie crack

Our 195 lb mastiff, Bueller, absolutely adores his CUZ balls, he is literally LOST without one. We can come home and say "Bueller, where's your CUZ ball", and he promptly gallups away and returns with one in seconds. To all of you that are complaining about the manufacturing of this ball, I do not know what causes it to lose it's squeaker, but our mastiff, after de-squeaking two large CUZ's, is now incredibly gentle with his new CUZ, as to not ruin the squeaker. I think he realizes exactly how much the loud-a!# squeaker annoys us when we are relaxing after a long day, or better yet, when we are trying to sleep.
We absolutely cannot wait until this next squeaker breaks!! Then Bueller proceeds to walk around with the CUZ, "squeaking" it, but all that comes out is air! AHHHH....so nice, can't wait!!
karen - September 1, 2006 2:40 pm
Hi there, i buy cuz toys for my retriever quite often, but unfort. the quality has gone down hill lately. I just bought one today and within ten minutes the sqeaker was broken. I also noticed that the feet are now hollow and the rubber feels thinner, it seems to be cheap and not durable. It's too bad, he used to love them and they would last for ages.
sarah - October 5, 2006 1:10 am
I feel like the CUZ is a member of the family. My Portuguese water dog, Oscar, takes it EVERYWHERE...to bed, the car, on walks. While I agree that the squeaker does wear out in due course, it lasts much better than other similar squeakie balls. I have also noticed the new design. While it seems a little flimsier to me, I'm not sure that Oscar seems to mind. And it does seem as if the squeaker lasts a little longer.
I love this toy and can't imagine what his little dog life would have been like without it!
Tim - October 30, 2006 8:11 pm
Great toy, because our dog also seems to love it more than her other toys. As to the squeakers...they break right away when our 25 pounder is given a new Cuz. But, just stick a squeaker piece from another toy into the hole and you'll have a squeaking Cuz again! The new hollow feet are harder to hold onto than the original solid feet when playing the "pull game" with the dog, but I'm guessing the toy was modified that way so if swallowed it wouldn't be as likely to get stuck inside the dog? If not a sfaety issue, I'd like the solid feet back.
Jennifer - November 4, 2006 11:46 pm
My greyhound has started a CUZ movement in my neighborhood. I should be getting referrals! We have to bad cuz, and the dinosaur. I really miss the solid feet. It gave it so much more of a sturdy feel. The squeekers stink. They've all broken within ten minutes. And she doesn't tear anything up. She still likes it, but it would be nice if the squeeker would last for a day.
Erin - December 22, 2006 8:16 pm
Oh my goodness...My pekinese plays with his devil cuz and dino cuz all the time. I can give him other toys but all he likes are is the cuz. He has to sleep with it and take it outside with him when he goes to the bathroom. It is insane. I never knew a dog could be so obsessed about a single toy before!
Josh - December 26, 2006 1:52 pm
Hello,
Having been a long time fan of your line of Cuz Dog Toys, I was recently disappointed to find that the quality of the medium sized Bad Cuz no longer compares to previous models.
I routinely recommended these and had purchased several to give to my clients that contract me to train their dogs. I’m reluctant to continue this practice after having purchased 6 medium Bad Cuz that stopped squeaking in less than an hour of use!
The previous version with the solid feet are still going strong after six months of daily use. These only show wear around the squeaker and the ears are nibbled off. With out a doubt your original Bad Cuz was keeping up with my Doberman mix and 3 other dogs and with a variety of dog toys to chose from, the dogs routinely played with “Bad Cuz”.
The latest version with the hollowed out feet thinner rubber and dysfunctional squeaker are forcing me to pull out the old Kong toys that the dogs preferred less than yours.

I have a welsh terrier who is almost 4. He loves the cuz toys, and will squeak them all day long. I wish that these toys also came without the feet, as just a ball. My dog also at off both of the feet, one we were able to grab from him before he swallowed it but the other went down the hatch within seconds. (he ate it)my dog is a medium sized breed (welsh terrier) he was playing with a medium sized cuz. The foot was approx. 1 inch in size. This incident of him swallowing the toy was 2 months ago, and just this morning (2 MONTHS LATER) he puked up the foot! We had no idea that hadn't passed the foot through his system! We were so worried for him, as he has had this in his stomach for over two months. I advise anyone who allows their dog to play with these toys to watch out for the feet! please cuz makers MAKE ONE WITH NO FEET FOR THE DESTRUCTIVE TERRIERS!)
tamsyn - January 11, 2007 7:53 pm
I bought a large Cuz for my boston terrier/collie mix (Pepper) and French bulldog(Bunny), they are both extremely destructive and most toys don't last longer than a day or 2. Pepper is inlove with the thing, it seems to be her fav. toy, chews it non stop and wants to play fetch all the time. It has been a few weeks and it's in great condition. I am going to buy a smaller one for Bunny to be easier to carry around. Reccomend to everyone.

I have black lab twins who fight over every toy and destroy every toy. I've spent hundreds of dollars in the past year on dog toys only to have them destroyed within minutes, hours or a day. Cuz is the first toy that has lasted longer than a day. We've actually had two of the small Cuz in our house for several months. These are the most favored toys. There is just something about that squeak that they both LOVE and they fit perfectly in their mouth and walk around for hours just squeaking and squeaking. They have great bounce and are safe for indoor play, I've bounced them off the walls, furniture and they never leave a mark. My dogs LOVE to chase after these toys. I highly recommend these dog toys.

Hey y'alls. I have two mini schnauzers, but they're aren't the CUZ addicts. I am. I collect them, and I will never let my dogs play with them. I have about all of the CUZ toys except the mummy and the original white one. Please, CUZ toys are awesome toys!

The following is from a letter to JWPet, the Manufacturer of the Cuz line.
Last month, I received a 4" Hard Rubber Cuz (Bad Cuz) as a gift for my 2 Labrador Retrievers. One dog took to it like it was made of beef and wouldn't give it up! What a great product and it lasted about 2 days which is MUCH longer than any previous toy ever lasted. We were VERY pleased. Even after the squeeker broke he still carried it around and chased after it. Finally he chewed the feet off and still he played with it.
Wanting more, I ordered 6 new Hard Rubber Bad Cuz dog toys. They promply arrived but I was very sad to see that the material used in these Cuz toys was no where near the weight or rigidity of the previous toy. I've seen my dog tear through similar toys in under a minute. Sadly I packaged up the toys and returned them all to the distributor.
I didn't cut into one of the new ones, but based on trying to squeeze the old one in one hand and being unable to, versus the ease with which my wife can crush one of the new ones in her hand, I'd say the new batch is roughly half the wall thickness of the original. They feel softer as well though it may be a function of the diminished wall-thickness rather than a softer grade rubber... Sincerely blah..blah..blah.
In summary: FEEL these before you buy them "CUZ they ain't what the used to be."

Just bought a bright green good cuz & took it down to the beach to play with my 2 year old Dalmatian. Absolutely amazing reaction - she is not into retrieving balls but played fetch & returned it for almost 1/2 an hour - UNPRECEDENTED! Only thing was the squeek disappeared within 5 minutes! Disappointing, but she is still excited by it. I will only use it when we go to the beach to keep her interest up.

I've got a two year old Lab who is normally very hard on toys. He has had his medium sized "Devil Cuz" for over a year now and he's still both his feet and horns AND his squeaker still works!
As a matter of fact, it's such a great toy, I just bought him a smaller Dino Cuz because he lost another small toy he liked to carry around. He walks around with it in his mouth and looks like he's eating a catapiller or something.
What I have noticed that has changed in the year since I bought his Devil is that the feet are now hollow. Sam's first one had solid feet, but when I looked at them (just yesterday) at Petsmart, I notice their feet are now hollow unless you buy the smaller ones. And evensome of those were hollow.

Our Lab, Skylar, LOVES LOVES LOVES her Cuz balls. She will squeak and squeak them... plus she loves to play fetch with them. Unfortunately the squeaker breaks much too quickly. This last one lasted for 2 weeks before it stopped squeaking. When the squeaker breaks, she is very sad, so I have to buy her another one.
I noticed that the design has changed. On the old ones, the feet were separate and the hole was in the bottom. On the new ones, the feet are fused together and the hole is on the side. Skylar DOES NOT like the new ones, not because of the feet, but because of the placement of the air hole. She won't play with the new design, so I am scouring all of the pet stores to find the old design. I am worried though... what will happen when we run out of back ups?

DO NOT BUY THIS TOY!!! Our little Pug nearly died as a result of this toy, he removed the foot from the toy within a couple of days and it got stuck in his small intestine! He had to have emergency surgery and nearly lost his life in the process. He's not a dog that chews at toys, so it must have come off very easily. This was a costly episode not just in monetary terms $2,500, but our family were devastated. BEWARE

Hi,
I have a 3 year old male yorkshire terrier 2.6lbs. I bought him his first CUZ about 2 years ago. It is like a drug. I don't know why but he just will NOT eat for days when that toy is fresh. The squeeker works fine BUT I am wondering if there's more to that toy than that squeeker that is soo loud??!!!! He can smell that toy no matter where the stash is hidden in the house. it's like he recognizes it and once the 1st toy stopped working after 2 days he started looking for the other 2 i bought BUT never showed him. They were hidden in the closet.
I am concerned that there is just more to that toy than just rubber. My dog refuses to eat or go outside for a walk the first couple days when he gets that toy but then he's not interested in it and wants a new one. I get him a few at a time because he loves them sooo much in the beginning but then loses interest as if it loses its smell or taste!!!It is insane!!

Ahh, the cuz. It's reached mythic proportions in our home, and now cuz mania has taken over the whole neighborhood. Every morning, there are at least 3 cuz's flying around the play group, often more, and the dogs can't decide which one they like best (although the yellow one with the pedectomy (one foot removed) seems to be popular). Some of them even still squeak. But here's the thing. We are all so grateful that the squeakers break! We'd be insane if those things kept squeaking forever. One friend runs over them in his driveway to kill the squeaker. Then there's the rough playing dogs that are given new cuz's to break the squeakers. I think that we should set up a cuz exchange website: those of us who are happy without the incessant squeaking will exchange new cuz's for those that have been de-squeak-ified. Everyone's happy, esp. the dogs. That said, I buy 4 at a time because my guy cannot exist without a cuz in his life. The first day I gave him one, he went to sleep with his (large) head resting on its (small) body. Priceless. And speaking of which, much cheaper than the Planet Dog balls which we all love. Sorry, PDOG, there's a new sheriff in town.

My dalmation/springer destroys all, but the good cuz. He lost one, so we got another, moths ago. even the feet are intact despite his best efforts. I am impressed. unfortunately, i grabbed one foot, he the other and we played tug of toy, and the squeaker went inside. my husband and i managed to deliver it with chopsticks, but today it agai went inside. we probably didn't have it set quite right. He has defeated squaker tenis kongs, and every other toy. This is by far the longest lasting, beside the kong, which bores him.

My pomeranian/chihuahua mix LOVES this toy...at first she just loved to chew and chase it, but now since the squeaker fell out, she's been acting like it's her puppy or something. There must be something to this toy because she carries it around, washes it, sleeps with it by her belly, and she gets REALLY protective when my male pom tries to take it away from her. She just has the littlest good cuz one, and now she won't play with any other toys. She just loves it.

We were at a friend's house with our boxer/german shepherd mix. The friends' dog had a good cuz toy. Our dog began playing with it, ripped the feet off in about 2 minutes, and apparently swallowed part of one. Like 4 others on this list, we just had to have $3500 surgery to have it removed from his small intestine AFTER nearly a month of him not eating, throwing up, and thousands of dollars in x-rays and tests. The little bugger wouldn't show up in an x-ray, but you can see clear as day on the piece they removed the letters "ny, Inc."--from "JW Pet Company, Inc." I would advise against letting your dog play with these toys.

There are two "styles" of Cuz toys. The older ones had solid feet and were much more durable. The newer ones have hollow feet and do not seem to stand up to rough play as well.
Nonetheless, my dog and all of the foster dogs love the darn things!

I have a Great Dane who fell in love with this toy and just squeaked it for hours and loved to go chase it. It lasted for months and still squeaked LOUD>>>lol
Now you have redesigned the toy and he tears off the feet right away and the squeaker breaks almost as fast. PLEASE put the squeaker back on the bottom between the feet and make the feet solid again. You had a great toy to begin with so why change it?
PS..I now have to cut the feet off right away.
Janessa - August 2, 2007 2:48 pm
My dogs LOVE these toys, but they have changed the way they are made. The old ones had the squeaker located between the legs, but now they have placed it on the back. The old version was SOOOO much better because my dogs quickly demolish the new version. Can anyone held me find the old version with the squeaker between the legs?!?

I have a 15-pound pug, Bones. CUZ was his favorite toy he loved it. However, 2 weeks ago Bones started acting funny…sleeping all the time, not eating and moving as little as possible. I brought him to the vet; I was told he had phenomena. He was at the vets on IV’s and heavy medicine. The next day I got a call from the vet saying they found a lump in Bones stomach and would like to operate, I said of course. About 2 hours later the vet called. The foot of CUZ had been lodged in his small intestine!!! The vet told me that we are very lucky because rubber does not show up in x-rays and that is why it was not spotted. Luckily she felt “the bump” in his stomach. The circulation was almost cut off in his intestine and if it was not found when it was his small intestine would have shut down possibly leading to death. I love my dog as much as I am sure all of you do, so I urge you to BE CAREFUL, they are not as strong as you think!

Our 65lb weimaraner loves her CUZ. Sure she chewed the feet off, but that was to be expected. And the squeaker followed not too long after. (That was a blessing.) Its survived 2+ years now even with her best buddy, a 75lb weimaraner, taking turns chewing and playing tug-o-war with it. They don't really chew on it, mostly just squeeze it so it pushes air out. Its perfect now for just playing fetch.

I bought a medium sized devil cuz for my 4 year old Carin Terrier, Harley. OMIGOD. He loves that toy. He won't even share with Jasper (his little brother.) Harley usually breaks his toys on the spot, but he doesn't break ones he likes. The devil cuz is one of the two toys in my house that aren't broken. The squeaker is fine and theres not tears through the rubber. (And the squeaker is usually the first thing out.) This is a great toy and I'd recomend it to anyone.

I have an 8 pound toy poodle. He loves CUZ toys, but I have had to buy the bigger ones for him. He demolished the little "bad cuz" balls in a day. The bigger ones lasted a lot longer and he has been unable to destroy the bigger Dino Cuz I bought him. However, for Christmas, I bought him a new "Good CUZ" bigger ball with the new design (squeaker is no longer between the feet, but in the back) and he had the squeaker out in about an hour. The old design was good, I just needed to use the ball designed for labs for the toy poodle.

Don't buy this toy. My older dachshund loves them and chews the feet off. My younger 1 year old dachshund is currently throwing up as we speak. This is the second time he has had blockage from this toy. We were unaware of what caused the first blockage because we could not recognize the piece of toy in his intestine. After he chewed one piece of the toys foot off we recognized the object. We will wait 24 hours before going to the vet. Last time the vet took x-rays, couldn't find the toy, kept him over night, charged us over 500 dollars, and was about to cut him open to explore. I took him home and on the way he released the toy out of his butt. It was disgusting, but he was fine. Now I'm waiting again, and this time my not be so easy. My two dogs love these toys for their squeak and smell, but the feet are killers.

My dog loves her Cuz toy, and it is indeed very durable! However, I have the old version with the solid rubber feet. I'm very disappointed that they decided to cut costs and hollow out the feet! I KNOW my "destructo dog" would be able to chew up those hollow feet in no time at all. It's a really big bummer because I wouldn't mind replacing the grungy (but amazingly, still fully intact) old one.
James - July 13, 2008 11:28 am
My German Shepherd loves to play tug of war with it. We had many of those and they last a long time. Unfortunately, the company does not make the toy with separate feet any more and this is the only one that is the most fun - much more difficult to pry out of his mouth. Obviously, the new Cus without feet is of no use to us.
Elizabeth - August 23, 2008 7:14 pm
This toy can be VERY DANGEROUS to dogs who like to chew up toys. My dog is a 30 lb terrier mix--in other words, a mid-sized dog with a normal bite. He nearly died after ingesting parts of one of these toys, which subsequently got lodged in his bowels, blocking any food/waste/fluids from passing beyond his stomach. (The vet saved the pieces to show me, so I am certain that it was, in fact, the Cuz toy with feet.) He has survived two surgeries to remove these broken pieces and is now, thankfully, on the road to recovery. The vet bills will amount to at least $3000.
