I hate carrying a laptop around. It's big, heavy, and you're always worried about damaging it. 99% of the time I'm switching between home and work and wanted to have my files available to me at both places without carryig the laptop back and forth. USB flash drives are a perfect solution for this, and they fit in your pants pocket or on a keychain!
There are several manufactures out there making USB flash drives, but Lexar seemed to be one of the most popular when I was shopping for the drive. I bought the 1 GB Sport model because it can store 1 GB of files, yet is still very small. It also has an excellent rubber casing that fits around the drive, protecting it from things like coins, keys, and whatever else that happens to be in your pocket. After 16 months, I've yet to have a single problem with the drive.
I use a laptop at work and a desktop at home, both running Fedora Core 3 (soon to be 5). I symlink my home directory to the USB drive and I'm all set. The OS runs nearly as fast accessing the flash drive as it does the normal IDE hard drive. Because it's capacity is 1 GB, I can only keep my day to day files on it, like my application configuration files, email, and any files that get used a lot. 1 GB doesn't sound like much these days, but if you keep only what you use daily on it, you should have room to spare. Mine is 60% full right now. I back up the drive both at home and at work just in case. Rsync handles that in seconds.
There isn't a whole lot more I can say about this device - it works well, all the time. I've since gotten one for my girfriend, and my dad. Lexar have quite a large product line, including the soon to be release FireFly which is smaller than my Sport, yet holds 4 GB!

Even I own a 1Gb Lexar.I feel that for daily file sharing, it has been extremely useful. I dont think many people actually need a space of more than 1 gb...

I LOVE this drive as well. However, it looks likes it is being discontinued.
I can no longer find it anywhere. It is my favorite, most reliable jumpdrive. I wanted a few extra for more music and files.
