Mastercraft Baby Boa Constrictor Wrench/Opener Review
- Product:
- Mastercraft Baby Boa Constrictor Wrench/Opener (company site)
- What's Good:
- Opens stubborn bottles/jars lids, cheap ($7.99 Canadian)
- What's Bad:
- It has a stupid name and your friends and family might think you bought it from an infomercial
The Canadian Tire website describes the Mastercraft Baby Boa Constrictor as an “all-purpose strap-type wrench” (website demands a postal code, try M5W 1E6). I’ve only ever used it for one thing, opening stuck jar lids and bottle caps, and it is incredibly good at this.
I can’t speak to the value of this little device when it comes to general wrench use (plumbing, etc.), but it is the best jar opener I’ve ever used. It has been able to easily open any stuck jar lid or bottle cap I’ve ever tried it on with very little force. Since it uses a rubber strap to wrap around the lid, you can adjust it to any size. It has worked well for large (3/4” diameter) jars and just as well for pop/soda bottle caps.
The Baby Boa is particularly good at those 750ml glass bottles with plastic caps. One might assume that plastic caps would be easier to get open than the old metal caps. Not so. I’ve had some bottles that would sooner tear the flesh of your hands than come loose. The Boa opens these bottles easily.
The entire devices is made of two pieces, a rubber strap, and an injection-molded handle. It’s light, small, and solid. Recommended.

It is a marvelous gadget. A friend brought me one from the UK and I have found it to very useful. It really works . Wish I could find out where I could purchase it in the USA as I would like to give one to a cousin of mine
