- Product:
- Tripod Mount Ring A
- What’s Good:
- Solid Build, Price, It Works
- What’s Bad:
- Marks up lens barrel
There is not much to say about this simple but effective lens accessory. The primary reason for this review is that I bought mine new on eBay for $22 while camera stores sell the almost identical Canon branded version for $205 CND.
Is there a difference? I have no idea but the "For Canon" branded ring is made of metal and works perfectly for only $22, so what's not to like? My only minor complain would be when shifting the lens from vertical to horizontal, the inner padding leaves small black marks on the lens barrel. They do wipe off.
Highly recommended so far. When using a tripod, the better balance and ease of switching orientation makes using the 70-200 that much more fun to use.
I can't guarantee that all eBay sellers have good products, but a quick search on eBay has dozens of similar tripod rings for a fraction of the price.
Update for Feb 2010: The ring no longer locks down tight and the lens barrel can rotate. It's still very usable.

I make weddings fotos and I I have to say that so havy object-lens is my problem. I am small and not so strong women and the work with this kind of lens is a horror for me..

Nick: It is not made by Canon and is non-branded. It's a generic tripod ring that is designed for canon. Made of metal and feels secure. I have not tried the Canon brand to compare but I can't imagine it being much different.

Could you tell which is the inner diameter of this ring (to know if it will work with another lenses) ?

The difference in price is quiet remarkable. Even if everything doesn't work perfectly you made a good deal.
