Honda EU3000is Power Generator Review
Review by Dan James
- Product:
- Honda EU3000is Power Generator (company site)
- What's Good:
- Reliable, quiet, electric start, multiple plug types, scalable.
- What's Bad:
- Heavy, a little pricey (~$2,500.00 CAD).
A few years back we here at silverorange began building up our technical infrastructure. As we host most of what we develop, having a good setup is crucial. Part of setting up such as system is backup electrical power. We purchased a few UPS systems for the immediate outages and power flickers, but long term power outages needed a better solution. We ended up purchasing a Honda EU3000is generator.
As we were running computer equipment we needed the generator to produce clean power. We also needed the generator to be quiet. We had rented a few before we purchased and most were as quiet as an open mining operation. We, being Nathan, researched our options and found the Honda to meet and exceed our requirements.
While I’m no generator buff and I don’t know my amps from my volts, the Honda has done the trick. It’s incredibly quiet for a generator (runs at around 50 decibels at full output), it pumps out 2800 watts of continuous ultra-clean power, small enough for one person to lug around (especially with the optional wheel kit), has multiple options for plugs, and has an electric starter with a backup pull start. As our systems grow we’ve also discovered that we can purchase a second EU3000is and daisy chain the two together to produce twice the power.
This generator has reliably taken us through snowstorms, hurricanes, massive thunderstorms, and like today, random power grid failures. It also brews a nice cup of coffee.

David, Sara and others:
We do not sell Honda generators. This is a review.
If you want to purchase Honda generators, use their online store.

God damn, those replies are hilarious...
On another note, I'm from Australia and have used the Eu30is (as it is tagged down here) and have found it to be a great product.
I also have a couple of noisy generators that produce quite dirty power, which we only use for lights etc.

Thanks for the clear and concise review. Our family went ahead and purchased one of these units for the hurricane season here in South Florida and we're expecting it to arrive tomorrow morning. I can't wait to have a simulated blackout and try this thing out. :)
